[treasure] searching in the deep

Beautiful teal waves crashed onto pale land, the skies above a slight gray hue, an indicator of rain. Marin didn’t pay mind to the weather, much to the dismay of his significant other to venture out in such conditions. He was stubborn, wanting to find at least a goldmine of fish to provide for at least a week's worth of delicious meals. No matter if there shall be rain, there shall be mouths to feed. The dark blue Symprite wandered over to the shore, the ocean crashing onto the beach he stood, tickling his hooves ever so slightly before retracting again for another wave. Marin took a breath, inhaling the scent of the ocean that laid before him as the grip on the net he held tightened before exhaling through his mouth, readying himself for hopefully a quick and easy haul as he started to step into deeper and much bluer waters.

Marin was quite the expert when it came to foraging, instead of using sticks and fishing weapons, he’d use his very own claws and fangs to catch any fish he’d lay his eyes on. His coat helped with his methods greatly: his scales gradient from blue to be far darker in value, allowing him to camouflage in the oceanic depths he adores to hunt in. From a fish’s perspective, Marin would be seen as just another part to the darkness held deep under the gracious waves of the surface, cloaked in a hollow void, unknowing of what exactly lurks amongst those who swim alongside.

Making his way down, the light blue waters from the shore dimmed as a darker hue colored the environment around the Symp. Before heading to where he initially wanted to go, into the depths, Marin made a small detour to some caverns not long far from where he dove. The caverns were maze-like, quite a task for anything bigger than a Lion Morray though that didn’t stagger Marin from catching anything his eyes spotted.

As he looked around, a small tingling sensation was felt upon the fins adorning his biote, with a slight turn of his head, there he spotted it. A Sneaky Malaka putting ‘sneaky’ in its name to use, nibbling on his fins - spotting a couple more making their way to his delicious biote, he supposed. It wasn’t until an idea popped into his head, glancing at the net he held before tightening the grip on it like he had on the beach; he allowed the sneaky little fish to take turns taste testing his fins and even take interest of his biote itself - looking like the belly of a bigger fish.

He waited for his moment to strike, keeping himself calm and collected as he counted the number of Malakas present. About 4, no…, 5 were having their fill despite the strong flesh Marin’s biote had. Without a second thought, he swung the net onto his biote, sweeping in most if not all the Malakas he had counted. The eels squirmed in the net, trying to find a way out to no avail, Main had just caught a buttload of the main course for the next few days, now for a side dish to accompany his catch … Marin wrapped the net tightly has he ventured out of the caverns, looking down as the void stared right back him, he began to swim.

He swam deeper, and deeper into the depths, passing by underwater canyons as the temperature felt as though it had dropped a few degrees, causing Marin to shiver under his skin yet never stopped him from venturing further. It wasn’t until he felt some sort of warmth at a certain angle, looking towards his left where hydrothermal vents scattered about.
He found what he was looking for.

Hidden in the vents were Midnight Kiril, ‘packed full of nutrients’ Marin reminded himself from the time his partner lended him some books to read about the creature who swam underneath the waters. They’d make a perfect side or at least an addition to a sort of broth he and his husband would cook together. WIthout thinking much of it, Marin reached into the vents, the heat made his claws twitch but despite what felt like a few burns, he managed to snag a kiril, and then another - it wasn't until he had a handful that he stopped into reaching into anymore vents.

The Symp looked into his net, filled to the brim with all sorts of fish and seaweed. Satisfied with today’s finds, Marin made his way back to the surface where the cold, light rain greeted him. The skies were grayer than before and the teal waters turned slightly darker yet despite it all, Marin had food to bring home
