LIFESPAN || 2 - 3 years
SIZE || 5 - 10 inches tall
SPECIES INFO || Jerbs are common critters and have become popular family pets and companions among all Symprite subspecies due to how easy they are to care for and how much they love to play! Jerbs are omnivores, preferring to feed on small insects, and collecting any grass and seeds they can get their little paws on.
Jerbs are native to the hotter plains and desert biomes. Due to the harsh wind and sands, they evolved to no longer have eyes and instead rely on the fluffy whiskers on their cheeks and incredible hearing to navigate the terrain. Their big ears are not only helpful in keeping them cool in the hot weather, but the patterns also deter predators!
The bright colors on a Jerb's ears create a false-eye effect, and can trick predators into thinking their prey is much larger than these little guys truly are. The neon colors also mimic many other toxic creatures on Capricorn-13, but do not worry as these fuzzy little friends are harmless in reality!
LIFESPAN || 25 - 30 years
SIZE || 60 - 80 inches at shoulder
SPECIES INFO || Houndles are loyal mounts to Symprites. They are working animals built for speed and light-weight travel, but can also be trained in tight knit teams to pull heavy loads by an experienced handler. Despite their canine appearance, Houndles are actually herbivores! They primarily eat fruits and grasses, with northern breeds favouring native Frostroots and southern breeds favouring Kiwa Coconuts.
Houndles are a migratory species native to the mountain forests and plains of the North, moving South during the colder months. They seasonally grow thick coats to survive the lingering cold. Wild Houndles have dark frills that can be flared out to soak up warmth from the sun and can often be seen gathering in large numbers among the open ice plains to bask together. The eye-like patterns on domesticated Houndles are common and a natural byproduct from breeding.
LIFESPAN || 15 - 20 years
SIZE || 10 - 20 inches, wingspans up to 45 inches
SPECIES INFO || Arkeos are mischievous little critters that are too smart to truly be tamed or domesticated. Despite this, Symprites have been known to befriend and even train them from time to time. Arkeos are omnivores, preferring seafood due to their coastal habitats but will eat almost anything. They are notorious scavengers and often steal their food.
Arkeos also have a strategic foraging relationship with Houndles where they shake Kiwa Coconut trees until the prickly hard-shelled fruits fall, and wait to steal the scraps after the Houndles have cracked them open with their strong jaws.
Arkeos are native to coastal regions where they build their nests in the sharp seaside cliffs. Those in the northern regions also grow extra fluffy layers to protect them from the cold. Finding an Arkeos feather is seen as good luck!
LIFESPAN || 300 - 350 years
SIZE || 120 - 240 inches long
SPECIES INFO || Alligawpers are high maintenance that require a lot of dedication, resulting in them only rarely being kept as pets. Due to their long lifespans, they are often passed down within Symprite families with care falling to the next of kin. Gawps are carnivores, but due to their mellow nature and slow metabolism they only need to feed a few times a year.
These critters tend to have 'princess' or aloof attitudes and enjoy being spoiled by their caretakers. Many family Gawps have developed a liking for music and they can often be found joining in when their favourite tunes are played or even creating their own melodies when they feel like it! Their soft, flexible underbellies and necks resemble that of frogs and can fill with air, allowing them to make rumbling and croaking sounds to communicate.
LIFESPAN || 10 - 20 years
SIZE || 10 - 26 inches, tails as long as 20 inches
SPECIES INFO || Byuns are cute critters that can be commonly found as companions to many Symprites. Despite being fairly docile, they resemble the wild cats of Earth in that they remain fairly independent in their day-to-day lives. Domestic breeds often eat algae, sea sponges and plant life, while wild ones are more carnivorous with a preference for seafood.
The sting from a Byun's tail has a numbing effect that, while harmless to Symprites, is capable of paralyzing small prey. Byuns have nubs on their heads that act like whiskers and help them sense their surroundings as they have no nose to smell danger or prey. They also have a fluffy dewlap that traps air for extra buoyancy while swimming! Byuns are a highly adaptable species that can be found in any climate with regional species having unique features that are sought after by breeders.
